ARTIST STATEMENT I am drawn to complexity of texture and intensity of colour and try
to express that in my work.
In my landscapes I often begin work from photographs,
although I do not hesitate to move elements around to strengthen the composition. They are not literal representations
of a scene, but an attempt to capture the experience and emotion of place. I am always fascinated by reflections.
My work is acrylic on canvas. I build up the colour with layers of paint, which takes advantage of the fast drying qualities of acrylic.
The majority of my landscape paintings are inspired by scenes in the Kawartha lake district in Northern Ontario, while the garden works are from a variety of places.
